We’re Not Playing!

Not PlayingLittle Black Dress INK invites theatres and theatre practitioners to join us in taking action against our racist, xenophobic, and misogynistic president-elect, and his reckless policies which are poised to jeopardize our civil liberties, our health, and our planet.

We invite you to take action with us by staging readings of short works from our We’re Not Playing initiative that respond to our current political, social, and economic climate.  These plays have/are being written by female playwrights from across the country and may be read royalty free on Friday, January 20th, 2017 – Inauguration Day.

Our playwrights request that in lieu of royalties, any and all monies raised at these readings be donated directly to the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and the NRDC – organizations we believe will be integral to fighting the dangerous policies the incoming administration intend to implement.

Little Black Dress INK will continue to post socially conscious/politically inspired plays by female playwrights between now and January 20th for interested theaters to select from – but theatres can also reach out to their own circles of fabulous playwrights to create short plays that inspire action.

Let us make our objections loud and clear, and let us put our humanity center stage on January 20th, 2017.

We can be better.

Let’s be better.

Let’s invite our audiences to be better with us.

Want to get involved?  Sign our pledge below.  Then start reading and selecting plays from those we’ve published, or invite other awesome playwrights in your area to contribute work!

If you’re a female playwright who wants to contribute short plays or monologues to the initiative, please send them, along with a photo and brief paragraph explaining what inspired you to write the piece to Submissions@LittleBlackDressINK.org – make sure your subject line reads: WE’RE NOT PLAYING SUBMISSION.

THE PLEDGE:

We, the undersigned theatre practitioners and companies, pledge to participate in Little Black Dress INK’s We’re Not Playing Initiative as a form of theatrical protest against our president-elect’s racist, xenophobic, and misogynistic campaign.

As participants, we promise to select and/or solicit short plays and monologues from female playwrights to be read on Friday, January 20th, 2017. We further pledge to donate any monies raised at these readings to one or more of the following organizations gearing up to protect us against Donald Trump’s dangerous political agenda: The ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and the NRDC.
